Matt and Lisa from All Abroad Pet Travel spent this morning helping The Folkestone Poppy Project with adorning the railings of the Leas and the Road of Remembrance with beautiful, hand-made poppies.
The Folkestone Poppy Project works hard all year, along with individuals and groups, making poppies of all colours to decorate this area in Folkestone where a remembrance service is held every Remembrance Sunday. Along the Leas stands the Memorial Arch. The Memorial Arch was built at the top of the Road of Remembrance and unveiled at the centenary commemoration in August 2014.
The Arch provides a dual purpose, for remembering the men and women whose journeys took them down that road, but it is also a symbol of Folkestone’s role as a key gateway to the Western Front.
The poppies are tied to the railings by a small group of volunteers from the arch down the Road of Remembrance, marking the walk that would have been taken over 100 years ago.
At All Abroad Pet Travel, we would like to honour and remember the animals that were killed or injured in war, along with all the fallen soldiers from war. These brave animals are represented by the purple poppy.
The Folkestone Poppy Project lovingly create poppies of all colours displaying the many different meanings the colours represent including peace, health, positivity and kindness.
All Abroad Pet Travel is proud to support and sponsor The Folkestone Poppy Project in 2024.
